Our Story

Missy & Mom is a real-life mother-daughter team who create greeting cards through their multigenerational female lens.

Missy & Mom live about ten minutes away from one another in the suburbs of Omaha, Nebraska. You will often find them sharing a cup of tea and laughing at Mom’s kitchen table as they concept, write, and design greeting cards (while Missy’s daughter plays with books and Barbie shoes in the background).

Missy & Mom have been blessed with a close relationship and kindred creative spirits. It is their hope that their cards help you connect with those you love.

Meet Missy

Melissa, lovingly nicknamed “Missy” by her family, has been making greeting cards for her loved ones since childhood. Inspired by visiting her mom at work in the Creative Division of Hallmark Cards, Melissa became a trained artist. She holds a BFA in Studio Art, an MA in Art History and studied at Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. For the last five years, she has been a freelance writer for a Christian greeting card company.

After becoming a mother, Melissa created Missy & Mom cards out of the need she saw for messages that would reconnect, restore and renew women trying to balance it all in our disconnected, and often isolating, digital world. She feels blessed to create messages of honesty, hope, humor and love alongside her favorite creative mentor, who also happens to be her mom.

Meet Mom

Cynthia (aka Mom) began making cards from a young age for her parents and friends, creating her own art or cutting out images from magazines and adding her writing.

Cynthia’s “dream job” came true when she began working in the Creative Division at the corporate headquarters of Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Missouri. There she was a Creative Editor, which meant working closely with a Creative Designer to come up with ideas for gifts and greeting cards, then pairing them with effective writing.

After working at Hallmark for 20 years, Cynthia retired as Senior Editorial Director. She loved her time there and had the opportunity to work with the most amazing people—some of them even famous—like the inspiring writer Dr. Maya Angelou and the celebrated Dutch nature artist Marjolein Bastin. These strong women taught Cynthia so much about living a creative and fulfilling life.

Now Cynthia has another “dream job”—working with her daughter, Melissa, as part of Missy & Mom to create meaningful cards with a female point-of-view. What could be better!
